The History of K-Star Thai Boxing Academy
It’s hard to believe that K-Star first started training people as long as 30 years ago! Long before many of our students were born. We’ve put together a short timeline below, to show how K-Star has become the biggest Thai Boxing Academy in Birmingham and one of the best in the UK.
1989
The birth of K-Star Muay Thai
K-Star Founder, Steve Logan starts the first Thai Boxing classes at the 610 Community Centre, Kingstanding
Before a permanent facility was found, K-Star’s founder and former professional wrestler, Steve Logan first started teaching Muay Thai back in 1989 out of the 610 Community Centre in Kingstanding. Some of the original members still train today.
1993
K-Star opens its first full time Academy
K-Star opens its doors at its first full-time Thai Boxing Academy in Perry Barr Birmingham
After finishing his fight career and winning the BTBC Midland area title, Steve Logan opened K-Star’s first full-time Thai Boxing Academy at Perry Barr, Birmingham in 1993. It has changed over the years, but K-Star is still producing successful fighters from the same locaton today.
2005
K-Star opens its second facility, in Birmingham City Centre
K-Star expands and opens its second full-time gym, this time in Birmingham City Centre
After the popularity of Perry Barr, K-Star opened its second Muay Thai Gym, this time in the center of Birmingham. Originally located above the famous ‘Mr. Egg’, the City Center Academy is ideal for those wishing to train straight after work or during lunchtime.
2012
The opening of K-Star Sheldon
Former Perry Barr instructor Adrian Maguire brings Thai Boxing to Sheldon and Solihull
Former K-Star, student, instructor and fighter, Adrian Maguire opens the new facility in January 2012. Adrian has trained with K-Star since the age of 14 and has won multiple titles, becoming Ringmasters Champion twice and earning the IKF English and British title belts.
2013
The 4th of the K-Star Academies are opened.
2 x World Champion, Damien Trainor opens K-Stars latest facility in Quinton
To complete the set of K-Stars 4 Thai Boxing Academies, 2 x World Champion and former Perry Barr Instructor now heads the successful K-Star Legacy gym in partnership with Steve Logan.
2019
Celebrating 30 years of K-Star
2019 – A celebration year! 2019 marks 30 years since Steve Logan founded K-Star
A lot has happened since K-Star opened its doors to the first students. The Perry Barr gym has expanded and the City Centre gym moved around the corner, twice! But 1000’s of students have continued to train, compete and make life long friends through all of our Academies. 2020
The 5th of the K-Star Academies are opened.
Former Perry Barr Instructor brings Muay Thai and MMA to Aldridge
Former Perry Barr instructor Tom Abbotts opens a new K-Star gym in Aldridge, bringing Muay Thai and MMA. Working along side Steve Logan, Tom brings a wealth of experience to add to K-Stars trusted training methods.
